RECYCLING
The council introduced alternate weekly collections and wheelie bins in June 2016 and , since then , you have helped to boost recycling rates by an impressive five percentage points . More people than ever are recycling .

Record rates

The latest figures show the council is already meeting its ambitious target of recycling 50 % of the borough ’ s household waste by 2018 . Final statistics for 2016-17 showed rates increased to 50.66 %, up from 45.35 % in 2015-16 . This means that Ealing jumped up London ’ s recycling league table .

The tonnage of food waste recycled from homes across the borough has seen an increase of 46.5 % compared to the same period last year , with 6,586 tonnes recycled between 1 April-31 March – roughly the equivalent weight of more than 500 London double decker buses .
Since the council introduced its new waste collection service to help residents to recycle more , people have been able to put a wide range of materials in their blue wheelie bins without sorting . These are collected on alternative weeks , with rubbish stored in the black wheelie bins collected fortnightly , and food waste collected every week .
Councillor Bassam Mahfouz , cabinet member for transport , environment and leisure said : “ I ’ m proud of the big increase in recycling we ’ ve seen over the last year since the introduction of our new collection service . Our residents deserve a huge amount of credit for their efforts .
“ It ’ s no surprise that we met our target of recycling 50 % of household waste , a year ahead of schedule .
“ We remain committed to helping households recycle more and to do their part for the environment . Our achievements over the last year show that by working together with residents we can make a real difference .”
