EALING SUMMER
Carnival time
A pair of community
carnivals are an integral
part of Ealing Summer
Festivals each year; and an
old favourite is returning
after a year away, too.
G
reenford Carnival is
back for another year to
get Ravenor Park buzzing.
Taking place on 8 July,
Greenford offers something for everyone,
with all the usual family-friendly wares
on offer. There will be children’s
entertainment, music and stalls. It is free
of charge to enter.
Acton Carnival
takes place on 15
July this year for its
16th anniversary. The
colourful procession,
which has become
a renowned part
of the town’s
calendar, will begin
at Woodlands Park
and start the day’s
celebrations. It will
parade along the
High Street with its shiny, often
feathery and sparkly, collection
of vibrant, handmade costumes;
with a DJ spinning party tunes
on one of the fl oats to keep
everyone moving. The festivities
then culminate at Acton Park,
d
where there will be food, stalls and
activities for everyone to enjoy. A wide
range of performers will take to the
stage all afternoon and into the early
evening. Get involved and check on
www.artifi cation.org.uk for updates.
Acton Carnival tickets cost £2 per
person, or you can get £5 family
tickets for two adults and up to three
children between the ages of 12-16.
Children aged 12 and under can get in
free of charge.
THE MELA IS BACK
The London Mela is back at
Gunnersbury Park after a year
off. You will be able to enjoy live
music, dance, food and much
more at Europe’s largest outdoor
South Asian festival.
It will run on two days – the
weekend of 2-3 September. With a
vast programme of entertainment,
the event usually attracts big
crowds in a celebration of
traditional and contemporary
Asian culture. There are typically
processions, a fun fair, children’s
activities, radio shows, live music
and dancing, outdoor arts and an
amazing spread of food on offer.
