nvestment in our borough is just as important, if not even more so, than the savings
all councils are having to make at the moment.
As I have written on these pages before, the council is expecting to have to make
unprecedented savings of £96million by April 2019. Funding from central government,
which is one of the biggest sources of money the council has to spend on day-to-day
services, has fallen dramatically. And there is a backdrop of a rising population, higher
costs, increasing demand on services and a shortage of housing in the borough. It all
