3The weather may be due to get warmer now spring is coming but Ealing Council ’ s COSIE helpline (‘ cold weather support in Ealing ’) is free to call from landlines and mobiles all year round . Advisors have detailed knowledge of grants , support and information to keep your home snug while keeping energy bills down at the same time . If you care for a person who would benefit from COSIE advice , you can call or make a referral on their behalf . Some residents who call COSIE may qualify for a free home survey by a ‘ green doctor ’ and possibly a free boiler upgrade . Energy saving measures such as draught-proofing , low energy light bulbs and reflective radiator panels may also be offered if you qualify . In summer months , COSIE support is tailored to the weather and cool packs can be supplied to those residents ( e . g . elderly ) who could be at risk in heatwaves – and the pack would include things like hand coolers and hand-held electric fans . Loud and proud
The fifth annual Hanwell Hootie music festival will take place on Saturday , 6 May . It has become an established fixture on the local music calendar and is now London ’ s biggest one-day , free music festival and was shortlisted for two national awards last year . A fine array of up-and-coming and well-known acts have taken over many of the town ’ s pubs , and also a specially erected ‘ igloo ’ tent , and the atmosphere in past years has been electric . In 2016 , there were 80 acts performing across 13 venues .
Now run by a community interest company , the Hootie is endorsed by Ealing Council , Hanwell Association of Traders , Ealing Blues Festival , the Ealing Club and sponsored by many others – most notably Marshall Amplification , the international firm whose founder Jim Marshall opened his first shops in Hanwell in the 1960s . Ealing Sports Awards
Do you know an outstanding sportsperson who deserves the plaudits ? How about a great coach or sports club making a real difference in the community ? Well now is the time to help recognise sporting achievements across the borough . The council has teamed up with local leisure provider Everyone Active for the new Ealing Sports Awards . There are nine award categories , ranging from junior volunteer of the year to sports club of the year . Nominations opened on 20 February and close at midnight on 31 May .
