Despite the backdrop of the economic crisis, the council’s latest residents’ survey has shown encouraging signs of a strong community spirit – while 82% said they were satisfied with the area they lived in. Almost a fifth of the 2,306 residents questioned said they did unpaid volunteering for local groups and organisations. And an all-time high for the survey came when 91% of respondents agreed with the statement ‘People from different ethnic backgrounds get on well together’. This is up 20% since 2003.
