aling Council celebrated the end of its successful
100-day apprentice recruitment drive by inviting
young people to apply for the 133 vacancies which
businesses have offered. Hurry, because as Around
Ealing went to press, almost a fifth of the positions had
already been filled.
The 100-in-100 campaign, which ran between September
and December, aimed to create 100 pledges for
apprenticeship job vacancies in 100 days, giving 16-24 yearolds access to employment and training. Offers to recruit
apprentices have come from a range of different sectors
including education, the legal profession, catering, medical
and the motor industry.
It is the second year the campaign has run and, for
the second time, the target of 100 placements has been
smashed. It draws the council closer to its aim of 500 new
apprenticeships by 2018.
It is not just apprentices who benefit. According to the
National Apprenticeship Service, 96% of employers that take on
an apprentice have reported advantages to their businesses –
including an increase in staff motivation, boosting productivity
and making a positive investment for the future.

NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP WEEK

National Apprenticeship Week (9-13 March) is designed to
celebrate apprenticeships and the positive impact they have
on individuals, businesses and the wider economy. Events
organised by the council will include: Afternoon tea with the
mayor of Ealing, a promotional event for health and social
care employers, and a charity fundraising challenge for
council apprentices.
