ACTON CENTRE
GROUND FLOOR
There are two new swimming pools,
which opened in May: An impressive
eight-lane main pool, which is 25
metres long; and a smaller teaching
pool with a moveable floor, to help
learners swim safely, especially young
children and people with disabilities.
The pools come with modern changing
rooms, and both pools are flooded
with natural light from huge windows.
The ground floor is also home to
council offices for staff working in
adults, children and family services.
FIRST FLOOR
The first floor is where you will find
the town’s new glass-fronted gym,
which opened for inductions in
April. More than 1,000 people
have already joined. Like other
council gyms, it aims to have
membership rates typically more
affordable than most private gyms.
Along with the 100-station gym
and fitness area, there are two new
studios for fitness and dance classes,
along with impressive changing rooms.
The town’s library has relocated to
the revamped old Assembly Hall – also
on the first floor – and it has been
named Acton Town Hall Library. Run by
Carillion for the council, it offers users
a 21st Century experience, with free
use of computers and WiFi alongside
its books, DVDs and other items, and

self-service check-out units.
A learning suite next door to the
library has additional computers, and
will be used by the council’s adult
learning services to hold courses.
SECOND FLOOR
The second floor includes council
offices for adults, children and families
services, including day care facilities,
therapy rooms and drop-in services.
Community rooms of different
sizes are available for hire – to use
for meetings, events and activities,
or as dance studios. They are bright,
clean and accessible to everyone and
have high quality levels of audio visual
equipment available. Local groups will
also be able to hire the meeting rooms
in the council offices at evenings and
weekends if they are not in use.
