Calling all
businesses
September saw the start of the
annual ‘100 in 100’ campaign
run by the council’s Ealing
Apprenticeship Network. It is
now in full swing and businesses
are signing up – could yours?
Running for 100 days between
September and December, the campaign aims
to secure 100 pledges for new apprenticeship placements from local
businesses. Employers can offer apprenticeships to new entrants or
use them to grow talent from among current employees.
According to research by the National Apprenticeship Service, 80%
of companies that invest in apprentices have reported a significant
increase in employee retention; and 92% of employers who employ
apprentices believe that apprenticeships lead to a more motivated
and satisfied workforce.
Since the campaign launched in 2012, the council has helped
businesses create more than 600 apprenticeship vacancies. Over the
next four years, it intends to achieve another 750.
Councillor Jasbir Anand, cabinet member for business and community
services, said: “Ensuring that people earn living incomes is one of our
top priorities and local businesses are key to this. We work closely
with businesses to support them in hiring and training apprentices.”

On litter patrol
Cleaner streets across the borough is something we all want to
see – which is why Ealing Council continues to take tough action
against the irresponsible minority caught littering and spitting.
Litter looks awful, is a public health hazard, and it can cost the
council a lot of money to clean up. The council successfully
prosecuted all 633 individuals it took to court last year.
We spoke to enforcement officers who work for the
council’s contractor Kingdom Security, patrolling the
streets daily to keep them clean. For the full story visit
