UP FRONT Your latest winner A striking image of a waking, stretching fox in an Acton garden was voted by residents as their winner of our spring Seasons of Ealing photo competition. The picture of the fox, taken by Sheryl Hall, secured an incredible 50% of votes cast in our public poll on our EalingLondon Facebook page. It was one of nine photos shortlisted by our panel. Runner-up was this beautiful picture of melting ice cream held up to a blue sky and a tree in blossom – taken in Ealing by Caroline Page. In third was a stunning photo of Walpole Park by Pino Agnello. Thank you to everyone who took part. Catch the famed parade as it makes its way from Hanwell Community Centre to Elthorne Park in Boston Road where the main event takes place. In the park there will be music, dance, sport, children’s attractions, a dog show – and lots more. Visit www.hanwellcarnival.co.uk for more details. The event is run and organised by the community but it is partially-funded by money from the council’s local ward forums. 2 For the first time, two popular music festivals will be held at Gunnersbury Park over one weekend in July. Lovebox will take place on Friday-Saturday 13-14 July, featuring Skepta and N.E.R.D. among many others, including a revival of Wu-Tang Clan. The Citadel Festival follows on Sunday, 15 July, headlined by Tame Impala and Chvrches. You can read more at ealingnewsextra.co.uk and at loveboxfestival.com and citadelfestival.com 3 Teenagers stuck for something to do? Why not visit www.youngealing.co.uk to check out what activities are taking place at local youth centres? Sessions on fashion, sports, cooking and music production are just some of the programmes on offer. 4 Residents will now be urged to use cashless payments when paying for Ealing Council services. People are increasingly paying for services online through the council’s website or through smartphone apps or over the phone. It means that payments can be made at any time on any day, rather than only when council offices are open. As a consequence, cash payment facilities will soon no longer be available at the council (some services may provide Paypoint). speedread around ealing    June 2018 7
