T
he celebrations begin on
Sunday, 1 July with a cycling
festival at Churchfield
Recreation Ground, next to
Hanwell Zoo. If you miss out on the first
event, there will be a second chance
to take part on the following Sunday,
8 July, at Northala Fields in Northolt.
The annual Ticket to Ride events will
also be held on those days, with groups
of cyclists departing on family-friendly
rides on the hour, every hour from 10am,
with the last ride beginning at 3pm.
There will be live entertainment and
cycling themed performances, BMX
and balance bike taster sessions, food
stalls and a smoothie bike, which uses
electricity generated from pedalling
a bike to power a blender making
refreshments. The festival is open to
everyone, including non-cyclists, and
people are being encouraged to bring
a picnic and make a day of it.
There will be different types of
demonstration bikes on display, including
folding Brompton bikes and the latest
Mobikes, which now have gears. Those
who already have their own bike will be
able to get security marking or free basic
bike maintenance thanks to Dr Bike.
