One in four women has suffered
domestic abuse and violence. And
incidents tend to rise during the
family stresses of the ‘festive period’. One

personal hell, and encouraged anyone in a
similar situation to find help. For the full story

Runner-up, by Vahe Saboonchian
The winner of our first
Seasons of Ealing photo
competition has been decided
after hundreds of you voted
on our Facebook poll. Well
done everybody who took
part – there were some
amazing entries.
Autumn’s competition was
won by Katarzyna Kicinska
of Greenford with a fantastic
shot of a white lipped snail on
a colourful, autumn leaf in Perivale Park – which you can see on the
front cover. The runner-up was Vahe Saboonchian of Ealing and you
can see their dramatic photo taken at Pitshanger Park here. The vote
on our Facebook page (/EalingLondon) was close. You can still view
all nine shortlisted entries, at ealingnewsextra.co.uk/gallery
Winter competition opens
The winter Seasons of Ealing competition opens on 1 December 2017
and closes 2 January 2018. At that point another shortlist will be
selected and a public vote will decide the winner, which will be
published in Around Ealing.

Making spaces safer
Seven parts of Southall and two areas of Acton could become
‘protected’ zones in the spring with the aim of improving
residents’ quality of life.
Ealing Council has been asking local people what they think
of the ideas. A public consultation runs until Monday, 11
December 2017 on the Southall proposals. Meanwhile, a
consultation on the Acton proposals has closed and results
should become clear in December.
