UP FRONT

Our photo competition

Show off something great in our borough and you could win a prize in our new photo competition – with the winner being selected by the public . Entries to our first Seasons of Ealing photo competition can be sent in or shared throughout October . The idea is for you to enter your favourite snaps of anything of an autumnal flavour in your local park or back garden or even in your street . It could be a landscape , a skyline , wildlife , your family playing in fallen leaves ; whatever takes your eye and lifts your spirits . The key is that it has to be taken in the borough . The closing deadline for entries is 11.59pm on 31 October 2017 . After that point , a panel will judge the entries and select a shortlist . These shortlisted photos will be showcased on a gallery on our website EalingNewsExtra . co . uk – and then everyone can get involved because the winner will be selected by residents via a public poll we will run at Facebook . com / EalingLondon Further competitions are due to run in winter and spring . Health : It starts with you

Do you have opinions on any of the local health and social care services you use ? If you do , why not tell Healthwatch Ealing ? It is commissioned by Ealing Council to act as our borough ’ s independent consumer champion . It was relaunched recently and is seeking residents ’ views , and for local groups and volunteers to get involved in its work . Councillor Hitesh Tailor , the council ’ s cabinet member for health and adult services , said : “ The more that people share their views about NHS and social care , the more services can understand when , and where , improvements might be needed . Healthwatch Ealing is an independent organisation giving you a voice and is able to feed research and views to the right eyes and ears .” Visit ealingnewsextra . co . uk / features / better-health-services for more details .

Saying no to hate

National Hate Crime Awareness Week takes place between 14-21 October . The aim is to increase knowledge and awareness of what hate crimes are and show that they will not be tolerated . Over the course of the week , Ealing Council ’ s safer communities team will be joining forces with the police to have information stalls at locations across the borough , as well as using social media , to help raise awareness . A hate crime is defined as a criminal offence perceived by the victim or anyone else to be motivated by hostility or prejudice based on a person ’ s disability , race , religion or sexual orientation . There has been a small rise in reported hate crimes across London over the past year . The council and the police are committed to tackling hate crime and have officers who can investigate cases and take action . If you become a victim of such a crime you can report it by calling 999 or 101 ; or do it online via www . met . police . uk or at www . report-it . org . uk
