Director of Records and Informa1on
Management, Pima Community College,
Tucson Arizona
How has your educa.onal background and previous employment led to your current posi.on?
I Have a Bachelors of Science in Psychology and
Organiza1onal Behavior, and am finishing up my
Masters in Business Administra1on. However I
have around 10 years of what I would define as
systems experience working with complex
databases, managing data assets for highly
regulated organiza1ons. That as well as deploying
a large scale imaging plan for one of the most high
profile departments at the College led me to my
current posi1on. The posi1on did not exist here at
the College prior to 2014. I was encouraged by
many of my peers and colleagues to apply for the
posi1on as many of the prac1ces I had
implemented at the department level would
benefit the College at large.
Describe a typical work day.
My typical work day is quite varied. Some days I’m
doing the day to day ac1vi1es of records management, from surveying the records facili1es, to
handling requests for purging or storing. Most of
my days are filled with policy crea1on, and implementa1on. Tons of mee1ngs.
“ I NEVER LOSE, EITHER I WIN OR I LEARN”
Because this is a new aspect to the College,
change management has been a large focus. I’ve
had to develop the en1re framework for the
College’s informa1on governance program, as
well as conduct record inventories district wide,
training for all employees, and project
management for the mul1ple balls I’m currently
juggling are among the few things that keep me
busy. To add to this, we are currently in the RFP
process for an informa1on governance plaSorm
that will help us manage are mul1ple repositories
that the College over 1me has invested in and we
need to find a sound way of managing according
to statute and other regula1ons that impact our
business processes. My department is also
responsible for the deployment of any imaging
projects here at the College.
How is your office staffed – full-.me employees,
student interns, departmental records managers, etc.?
Currently I have one part-1me Program Assistant
and 48 departmental record liaisons. Due to
funding constraints we opted for a liaison model
within every func1onal unit. The number of
record liaisons is growing. I suspect RIM will have
close to 200 record liaisons here at the College
once we reach our maximum audience.
