Campus News Berry Elementary National Walk to School Day It was all smiles when the Berry Elementary community gathered for National Walk to School Day on Oct. 5. Students, parents, teachers and faculty met at Luci’s Chicken near Park Row Drive and New York Avenue to walk together as they made their way to Berry. Students brought homemade signs for encouragement and school spirit. Dr. Kathye Porter, school counselor, and Elena Flores, the family engagement liaison, organized the event encouraging students to make the signs and asked parents to rally behind them for the walk. This is the third year that Berry has participated in National Walk to School Day, and this year’s participation was the best yet. This was also the second year that Superintendent Dr. Marcelo Cavazos has joined in the walk. Board member Bowie Hogg and former Board member Peter Baron have participated in prior years, and the students, parents and faculty are always excited to have their support. 20 Arlington School & Family - November/December 2015 “Berry is a wonderful school,” Principal Larry Beaver said. “The students are well behaved and very eager to learn. The parents are supportive and involved in their children’s education. Berry’s faculty and staff work tirelessly to help all of our students. Since we are a campus in an established part of the city, we have current students whose parents and grandparents attended Berry. I’m very excited about the direction the campus is headed. I know we are going to have a great year.” † “Berry is a wonderful school,” - Principal Larry Beaver
