Campus News Lamar High School Viking Fight Never Dies: Spring Events Highlight Student Involvement By Stefani Gomez, senior / Layout Design by David Leza, senior After two days of long state testing in English, students and faculty ended the week with a basketball game sponsored by K104 and Young Men United on April 1. The faculty defeated the students, 22-17. “I’m looking forward to watching everyone’s acts,” senior James Alexander, III said. “The event raises scholarship money. It’s a couple hours of cheap, fun entertainment.” † “The best part about the game was seeing the teachers rack up points against the students who usually boast about their skills,” junior Stephen Garnett said. “It was a fun afternoon.” UIL academic teams competed in various contests March 22-25, with 11 students advancing to Regionals at UTA on April 25. The accounting team claimed first place in District and helped Lamar finish in second place overall. “I was pretty shocked and ecstatic that my team finished in first place,” junior Michael Avila said. “It’s going to be an experience to learn the environment to go up against the other regions and see how we do.” Also earning special recognition were members of the Winter Guard, who were named NTCA Regional A Champions on March 21 at Marcus High School. Winter Guard members compete March 21 at the NTCA Regional A competition at Marcus High School. Under the direction of Malan Messemore and Caleb Hunter, the team received the highest honor, Champions. Phot
