Cynthia Torres-Flores, Arlington Collegiate High School
Cynthia epitomizes the true spirit of what it means to
be an ACHS Lion.
Cynthia applied to ACHS while she was in eighth
grade at Barnett Junior High – she’s a sophomore
now – so she could be a role model and inspiration
for her four younger siblings. She is a member of
student council and dance club, and she has made
an A in every ACHS class and has earned 12 college
credit hours with a 4.0 college GPA.
Cynthia also has a strong interest in pursuing a
career in the medical fi eld. Last year, she completed
a project in Dr. McCoy’s computer information class
where she researched and compared what is smarter
– a computer or the human brain. From this, she developed a deeper curiosity about the detailed functions of
the brain, and now she’d like to become a neurosurgeon.
Cynthia has a strong work ethic, she’s very determined and she always helps her peers. She’s not afraid of
hard work and challenges.

Chris Zaragoza, Bowie High School
Chris is an outstanding student who truly represents what a
Bowie Volunteer student should be.
Chris has challenged himself by taking pre-AP and
AP classes, and he has been active in multiple student
organizations such as LULAC, salsa club and student
council. He also serves as a Project Soar mentor to
underclassmen. Chris is a leader in the senior class and is
always trying to generate a positive atmosphere with his
peers to go along with the #positivebowie focus this year.
Chris’ true passion and where he stands out most is in his
participation in the AISD Fire Academy. Chris is in his
second year, and it is his true passion and what he wants to pursue after he graduates. He extends his learning
by participating in ride outs with members of Arlington Fire Department Station 6 and also by enrolling in
courses such as pharmacy tech and medical terminology.
Chris is always thoughtful and considerate, and he has a bright future ahead of him.
