our students practice dry firing (shooting unloaded guns) through the patterns until they are really confident with their gun control and can change guns without looking down. I have had students yell at me across the arena, “ I picked up my gun and forgot how to ride!” I have also watched new shooters (only dry firing luckily) “shoot” their horses in the head multiple times as they learn how to ride and handle a gun at the same time.
