our students practice dry firing (shooting unloaded guns) through
the patterns until they are really confident with their gun control and
can change guns without looking down. I have had students yell at me
across the arena, “ I picked up my gun and forgot how to ride!” I have
also watched new shooters (only dry firing luckily)
“shoot” their horses in the head multiple times as they
learn how to ride and handle a gun at the same time. It
really is harder than it looks! Take your time and enjoy
the process!
Now that you are ready to start shooting live, we
should talk about hearing protection for both you
and your horse. I advise that both shooters and horses
protect their hearing. There are many horse earplugs
on the market. Not all horses ears are the same
