Arizona Polo Club to Host Polo Clinic And Open House at New Arena Offers Opportunity to Learn How to Play the Sport of Kings S tart your year off right and start learning the adrenaline-filled, action-packed game of polo and gain insight to one of the most thrilling sports in the world. The Arizona Polo Club is ready to start the second half of the season on January 25th and 26th with a new slate of dates and scheduled play times for beginners and advanced polo players. The club is offering coaching leagues, lessons and beginners groups for those who are trying polo for the first time. You can improve or learn polo under the supervision of qualified instructors at the Arizona Polo Club. The club has new location in Scottsdale and is planning its open house on January 26th, with doors opening at 11am, where visitors can meet players and ponies as they get ready to play. At noon there will be a polo clinic for anyone interested in playing. Those as young as 10 years old can learn to play the Sport of Kings. No riding experience is needed. The cost is $50 and includes ground instruction, equipment, rules overview, hitting cage practice and pony practice. Then stay and catch the action at 2:30 with beginners, first year and second-year players followed by advanced player matches. It all makes for a great day to spend outdoors with family, friends and horses. The polo club finished a new polo arena for the club at 101st and McDowell Road. The Arizona Polo Club will begin play at the new venue this month and is seeking sponsorship for the arena. “Most people made new year’s resolutions and if yours was to try something new and exciting, Arizona Polo Club has the right sport for you and your family,” said Diego Florez, the Arizona Polo Club manager. “We have people that started to learn how to play polo two months ago and now they are flying down the field. Once you try it you can’t stop wanting to play more polo. We invite everyone and anyone from the area to come and see what polo is like up close.” Sponsorships are available for the arena, teams, tournaments and awards as well as partnerships with the community. Last month, the Arizona Polo Club hosted the USPA Border Circuit Masters Cup at WestWorld of Scottsdale. More than 14,000 people last November year got an up-close look at the sport at the Scottsdale Ferrari-Maserati Polo Championships: Horses and Horsepower at WestWorld. The Arizona Polo Club took the field in a match against the Women’s AllStar Team. Polo has in the past few years been featured in such national media such as CNN, ESPN and CBS’s “60 Minutes.” The Arizona Polo Club has been playing on the Scottsdale horsemen park field at WestWorld Equestrian Park in Scottsdale since 1982. The team also plays at indoor facilities throughout the state. The club’s outdoor and indoor season is played from November through April. New members are welcome.
