Ranch and
Rodeo Roundup
By Kimmie Dillon
E
very weekend this
time of year we see
multiple ranch
and rodeo-related
events. Here are a
few of the highlights
from our arenas and
sorting pens:
The fine folks at Barrett
Jackson produce a nothing short of a
spectacular collector car auction every
January. This year they had record crowds
along with extremely rare automobiles. But
did you know they also hold an Invitational
Bull Riding at West World? On January
16th and 17th, 20 bull riders climbed aboard
some of the rankest bucking bulls from
Dirty Money Cattle Company. Bull Fighters
Sean Moore and Tristan Howard along with
Barrel Man Don “Hollywood” Yates helped
to keep the cowboys safe. Up for grabs at this
event was a cool $9000 in prize money and a
championship Barrett Jackson buckle. Here’s
who came out on top:
The 20 competing bull riders were: Travis
Briscoe, Wacey Barta, Patrick Chee,
Justin Granger, Lane Granger, Brandon
Cordova, Eric Cordova, Dusty Ephrom,
Wayne Oversen, Jayme Tomczyk, Wyatt
Betony, Ivan Yazzie, Casper Johns,
Brandon Mccassie, Hernald John, Ryan
Sellers, Pedro Reynaga, Buskin Wilson,
Armondo Rodriquez, Andy Sells, and Clay
Wagner. Special thanks to Dariane Savage
and Hayden Shelton for carrying the opening
flags. Photo credits are Ralph Prideaux, Where
They Buck, Duffy , and the Dirty Money
Cattle Company (owned by Jeff Stogner, Tina
Campbell, and Brandon Shelton).
The 70th Annual Yuma Jaycees Silver
Spur Rodeo was held at the Yuma County
Fairgrounds on Feb 13th thru 15th. This
PRCA and WPRA rodeo has been a major
contributor to the professional sport of rodeo
in Arizona. Here are the results:
Hernold John and Wyatt Betony both split 2nd
place with an 85 point ride. Other high
scoring rides were Armando Rodriguez with
83 points and Andy Selles with 79 points.
All-Around Cowboy Cutter Parsons, $1,046,
tie-down roping and steer wrestling.
Average Ivan Yazzie captured 1st place in the
average winning a $3000 check. Hernold John
and Wyatt Betony tied and placed 2nd and
3rd in the average both winning
$1850 each.
Lane Granger took home $540 with a
4th place finish in the average by
putting up an 84 point ride in
Round 1.
