Larry Smith L arry Smith, Tucson Mining Equipment branch manager, decided the old adage, “If you can’t beat them, join them” applied to him, and he became part of the Arnold Machinery team three and a half years ago. “Arnold Machinery was a very difficult company to compete with due its reputation for quality products, people, and service,” Smith declares. His initial position was as parts manager for the Elko branch starting in early 2012. Almost three years later, Smith was appointed general parts manager for the Mining Division. This comes with its own set of challenges. “My daily activities are focused on my staff in Elko as well as the parts department in our Gillette branch, working on supporting our customer requirements and orders, resolving problems related to equipment being 00000 there are not a lot of places that work on some of this equipment.” The change in scenery from California to Flagstaff was great, but not as dramatic as what Moyer experienced in his youth. “I spent my grade school years in Pismo Beach, California,” Moyer recalls. “I very much enjoyed those years but then my folks moved to Fallon, Nevada. Now that was a real cultural shock to a sophomore in high school. But that is where I learned about farming and industrial equipment.” Moyer later moved to California’s Central Valley and spent most of his adult life working for J.M. Equipment, which was a dealer in forklifts and farm equipment. There are seven Arnold Machinery associates at the Flagstaff facility, including Moyer. “We have a technician here, Mike Lind, who has been with the company for 20 years,” Moyer says. “In my career, he is the best mechanic I have ever known. Lind routinely works at the Kayenta coal mine operated by the Peabody Western
