Q.Is it sanitary to
&
use bar soap?
A. Many studies suggest
bar soap has a much higher
chance of cross-contamination than liquid soap. If
there are multiple people sharing soap, such as in a
guest bathroom or a shared kitchen sink, it’s probably best to use a liquid
soap. If you prefer a bar
soap, look for one that is
labeled “anti-bacterial”
and use the most moisturizing bar you can find.
A lot of times, bar soap is
very drying and infections can creep into tiny cracks
in your skin. Liquid soap is usually more moisturizing. Dial® makes both bar and liquid anti-bacterial
soaps (the Gold line) that are not too drying, and
only cost a few dollars apiece.
Q. What is the best way to
apply mousse for tons on volume?
A. Apply mousse to damp hair in sections,
starting at the roots and working down through the
ends. You can use a wide-toothed comb to evenly
distribute if needed. Blow dry your hair on “low”,
paying special attention to the roots…for even more
volume, you can gently brush hair out at 90 degrees
from your head as you blow dry. As the mousse
dries, it will stiffen at the roots, giving you that
extra lift. You can air dry you hair as well, but you
will have a lot more volume if you blow dry. If you
plan to use a blow dryer every day, use a thermal
care mousse…try TRESemme’s Thermal Creations
Mousse®, approx $4.00 at drugstores.
Q.Should I use shampoo formulated to
preserve my color or control my texture?
A. Once you color your hair, make sure you use products
for “color-treated hair” only. They are formulated to keep
your color rich for as long as possible. Make sure to use a
good quality, moisturizing creme conditioner (for “color-treated hair”) to replace moisture lost during the coloring process,
or a deep conditioner once a week. You can work with your
hair’s texture with products during styling…for example, use
a smoothing serum for taming rough locks, use a paste or
pomade for adding texture. If you have trouble locating products specifically for color-treated hair in a drugstore, check
beauty supply stores like Ulta, or ask your stylist. Also, check
out www.Shikai.com and browse the Color-Reflect products
(approx $8.99).
Q. Why do I consistently get a pimple
in the same spot?
A. One reason pimples occur in the same place is the con-
stant touching of that particular spot…is it where your phone
always rests, the side you sleep on, where a hat sits, or where
you rest your face on your hands? Another reason is that
pimples tend to reoccur where they were last picked at…if
you’ve been messing with it (picking, squeezing, etc) chances
are you’ve damaged that area, making it more susceptible to
oil and dirt settling there. Rule number one…don’t touch your
face, ever! We don’t realize how often we rest our face in our
hands, rest our face on our phones, etc. Try to avoid touching
your face at all. Change you pillowcases often. Try Proactiv’s
Advanced Blemish Treatment® $30.00 proactivcatalog.com).
