INTERIOR Standard Bank Market Square In 2013, Savile Row Tailored Environments was requested to design the new Market Square Facility for Standard Bank’s recently completed 30 Baker Street building in Rosebank, Johannesburg INTERIOR DESIGN: SAVILE ROW TAILORED ENVIRONMENTS T TEXT & IMAGES: SAVILE ROW TAILORED ENVIRONMENTS his facility was to include dining facilities for the staff of the building in a new and unique manner and it was clear from the outset that Standard Bank was not looking for “yetanother-staff-canteen”. The brief was specific in that it required both internal staff and external visitors to be catered for within the accommodation provided. In a drive to further emphasize the uniqueness of the facility, Standard Bank engaged By Word of Mouth (BWOM) to operate the facility. They quickly developed an operational brief that included an à la carte private Dining Area, a Café Style central dining area and a Grab ‘n Go offering for staff on the run. These three distinct offerings combined to assist in preparing a brief that lent itself to varying seating configurations to satisfy the level of privacy sought 72 after from the large number of users anticipated to frequent the Market Square. With this in mind, Savile Row embraced a modern approach to the design aesthetic that responded to the vastly varying needs of the proposed customer base creating an allinclusive dining experience for Standard Bank. The area available for the Market Square was approximately 2,000m2 and was to include all the back of house food preparation and storage facilities required to serve upwards of 1,500 people per day. With BWOM being a predominantly off-site food preparation company, these facilities could be vastly rationalised compared to facilities of similar capacities.
