The development of the V&A Waterfront’s Silo District commenced in 2010 when
the V&A was in the process of identifying its next growth node.
22 NO 3 SILO & NO 4 SILO
Designed by Architects VDMMA and Makeka Design Lab, No 3 and 4 Silos were
developed from the district diagram, but broke from the rigidity of the circle that
was established in the first phase.
28 NO 6 SILO
The V&A Waterfront approached DesignSpaceAfrica in 2014 with a brief to
develop a new mid-range hotel on the site known as No 6 Silo.
40 ZEITZ MOCAA & THE SILO HOTEL
The once utilitarian Grain Silo, a functional ugly duckling, has been transformed
into the showpiece of the V&A Waterfront’s new Silo District.

The new No 1 Silo office building at the V & A Waterfront has been awarded a 6
star Green Star SA rating for design.

industrial relics, the 1921 grain silo, that has now been reinvented as the Zeitz
