STOVES AND FIRES FOR HOMES WITHOUT A CHIMNEY If you are looking for a heating solution that does not require a chimney, there are options available that provide a great alternative to woodburning. THE ELECTRIC EFFECT The obvious chimneyless installation is to go for an electric option. Whether freestanding, inset or wall-hung, there is an electric stove or fire for all kinds of home design – and all they require is a mains plug point to function. Some electric stoves and fires emulate the striking look of a woodburning fire, with realistic logs glowing to imitate real flames. An electric alternative also eliminates the need to store logs or light fires, offering instant ambience in the home at the flick of a switch. Many ultra-modern designs offer an alternative to classic fuel effects, with dazzling crystals and mesmerising colours taking centre stage. One example is the Vogue Midi electric stove from Gazco, which can be selected with realistic logs, but also offers the option to choose crystals instead for something a bit different. This stove also boasts 13 different fuel bed up-lighting colours, making for a relaxing environment that also suits any colour scheme. If you want to make the overall look as real as possible, freestanding electric models can even be enhanced with details such as faux flue pipe, along with baskets of logs or log holders to complement the overall look. A BALANCED FLUE OPTION Many gas fires and stoves are available as balanced flue versions, negating the need for a chimney entirely. A balanced flue model requires a twin-walled pipe to vent directly to an outside wall. Air for combustion is drawn in through the outer pipe whilst the inner pipe removes the combustion gases to the exterior of the property. This removes the necessity for a chimney entirely. Balanced flue gas fires and stoves come in all sorts of designs and sizes, giving you plenty of options to choose from. The Gazco Reflex 75T multi-sided fire is one example that can even be controlled via a remote handset allowing you full control of the fire from the comfort of a sofa. With an EcoFlex gas saving mode, this fire also gives you the option to modulate the height of the flames, lowering gas usage while maintaining ultra-realistic woodburning flame visuals. This fire can also be controlled via WiFi connectivity, allowing you to control the fire through an innovative app. WHAT IF I STILL WANT A WOOD BURNER? If you want a wood burner, or a conventional flue gas stove, but your home does not have a chimney, there are options that may be available to you. A conventional flue fire or stove requires a chimney or flue system in order to function. If you do not have a chimney, you may be able to have a pre-fabricated system installed which works in the same way a normal chimney would. There are options for you to have one that either runs internally or externally to your property, and allows you to enjoy a stove or fire in your home. With any options, visit your local retailer who will be able to advise which is best for your installation. www.stovax.com
