ART/ HOUSE LONDON PROJECT - 23 ARCHITECTURE Creating a harmonious synergy between art and architecture was the impetus for 23 Architecture’s innovative reconfiguration, extension and renewal of a London home.   Undertaken to include a voluminous subterranean addition containing a pool with diving platform and leisure areas it houses the family’s fascinating art collection. Secreted at the end of a city street and set within a large private urban garden the property contained remnants of an old  Victorian hospital. Due to this original function and unusual for domestic residencies, the building comprised largely non-subdivided spaces and this was a key precursor to the new design intervention to retain these generous interior volumes. A key focus was the need to display the client’s large contemporary art collection. Windows on all elevations of the building did not provide much wall space for hanging art (or for the easy incorporation of storage).
