PUlSar illuminates stone Campus buildings in bahrain Having designed and manUFaCtUred products in the UK since 1970, Pulsar have a great deal of experience when it comes to architectural lighting. The Cambridge-based lighting company have a long history of illuminating buildings both large and small all around the world. The company recently added to their ever-growing list of projects in the Middle East with the Royal University for Women in Bahrain. The university stands proud in the wealthy Awali district, which is also home to the royal palace and many of Bahrain’s elite. A very select student population consists of members of the royal family, and daughters of diplomats and government officials from Bahrain, and across the GCC. The initial degree programmes of the university were designed in collaboration with McGill University in Canada and Middlesex University in the United Kingdom. A key problem was that the unique façades on the buildings were not visible from the main road - an important artery through the area. This was deemed as a pressing priority by the governors of the institution. A 2-metre boundary wall surrounds the campus, with many of the campus buildings only being 2-3 storeys high and set more than 50m back from the boundary. Careful consideration had to be taken when choosing the correct fixtures for maximum impact.
