EMPLOYMENT
A
s the shale oil boom began to unfold in 2011 and 2012, developments in the Eagle Ford
region boosted employment in Corpus Christi more so than any other metro area in South
Texas. With increasingly less slack in the local labor market, Corpus Christi’s job growth
slowed down considerably during 2013.
Meanwhile, other South Texas metro areas like Laredo and McAllen finally gained momentum
in job creation. Between 2011 and 2014, only San Antonio and Corpus Christi matched the pace
of job growth statewide.
