The effect of migrants on Corpus Christi’s housing market is evident in the accompanying
chart, which shows the area’s inventory stock since 2009 and the number of migrants as a percent
of local population. Before 2011, more residents moved out of the area than persons moving into
the area, meaning a negative net migration of the local population. This negative net migration
trend was reversed in 2011. Migrants, mostly from other parts of the nation as opposed to
overseas, have helped to absorb Corpus Christi’s housing supply.
