Despite a strong recovery of the real estate market since 2011, the foreclosure rate remains relatively high within the metro area. In Nueces County, the number of foreclosure homes was one in 2,819 units in May 2014, according to RealtyTrac. This aspect of the housing condition is in line with the Texas state average. The foreclosure rate for Aransas County was much better at one in 5,110 units. However, with an unemployment rate more than one percentage point higher than the rest of the Coastal Bend region, San Patricio County has one of the worst foreclosure rates (1 in 1,564 units) in Texas along with its neighboring Refugio County (1 in 1,242 units).
