~ FEATURE ~ PG.20 Jodie, Nate and Indoxicated Q-70579 at Q18 ‘With all three of our kids competing, we now go to the Nationals every year, and it’s become somewhat of a really nice annual family vacation.’ Jodie says wistfully. ‘The kids really enjoy it, and just love catching up with friends, old and new! We always camp next to the Lalor family. Charlie and Lacey Lalor also went to their first Nationals back in 2014, along with our girls. The Lalor family are from our area, so they love having that time together, and enjoy having great competition with many other friendly competitors at the Nationals.’ Right now, Jodie explains, Sage is showing ‘QXH Tiger’s Chocolatkiss Q-74131’, while Cora has ‘Heart of Stone’ and Nate is still competing on ‘Indoxicated Q-70579’, and they love competing in all round classes. The family also have a junior mare ‘Valdemar Sweet Potential Q-85008’, out of Jodie’s imported mare, ‘Sweet Hot N Famous Q-70392’. ‘The girls and I usually show her,’ says Jodie. ‘But the girls seem to get more showing done with her than I do! That’s okay with me, as I started training a few outside horses around 12 months ago, so I do have some client’s horses that I show, and some younger ones of our own coming through that we hope to be showing soon, so that keeps me pretty busy, along with my photography business. Some of the Potter’s horses are used for cattle-work at home and the kids often do some Boxing classes with them, so basically, that does keep the family constantly busy with the horses. Greg last showed a 3yo in the Boxing at Comet Ag Show, but will be happy when he has a cowhorse to show again. But with Greg’s expertise and love of building things, Jodie can gratefully say that they have an immaculate arena and beautiful paddocks! ‘I must say, though.’ Jodie says. ‘We’re a little sad that some events have been taken out of the Nationals program, mostly because we just love the idea of promoting and showcasing our breed in one place, over so many disciplines. It really does show just how versatile Quarter Horses are.’ AUSTRALIAN QUARTER HORSE ASSOCIATION
