However, that doesn’t stop them from travelling to the AQHA Nationals each year! W childhood. hen Jodie was a kid, her mum was an avid Quarter Horse enthusiast and bred a few of them, so Jodie was lucky enough to be around the show scene early in her ‘I’ve been showing for as long as I can remember and have always loved the whole show scene. I got to show ponies at the Agricultural shows, and our Quarter Horses at Halter and Performance Shows. I started competing as a Youth at the AQHA Nationals in a range of events, showing right through to Amateur classes.’ (L-R): Sage & Max, Nate & Indoxicated Q-70579, Cora & Stoney at the Q19 Jodie met Greg in 1994 and they initially travelled to the USA in 1997. They came home at Christmas to be married in February, 1998. Making the move back to the States, Greg very successfully rode bulls in the PRCA and PBR, while Jodie worked for John Mitchell and Greg Coalson, before having their three children. ‘We lived in the States for a total of 14 years while Greg was bullriding, and all the kids were born there. We’ve been living at Comet since 2010 after returning home. When we did come home to Australia, we also imported a really nice cutting bred Quarter Horse stallion named Indoxicated Q-70579, along with a pleasure bred mare and foal. Sean Flynn started Indoxicated Q-70579 in Cutting for us and he became a very handy horse.’ Sage, Cora & Nate, first trip in new gooesneck 2015 Once back home, it wasn’t long before the showing bug bit Jodie again, and she was back in the arena. The Potters were also now breeding some Quarter Horses and had purchased ‘Huggin Jo Q-45725’ for the kids, so that they could start showing, too. Huggin Jo Q-45725 became Sage’s first show horse, and with so much going on with the kid’s showing, Jodie ended up taking a back seat to enable them to show more seriously. She took the girls to their first Nationals in 2014. ‘At just 7 years of age, Nate showed at his first Nationals, in 2015. It was a great trip, and exciting too, because JULY/AUGUST ISSUE 2019
