Hi My Name is Shelley Lalor, am married to Kevin Lalor and we have three children Harry, Charley And Lacey. We live in Cawarrel in North QLD just outside of Rockhampton and have lived in this area all our lives. At present Kevin and I own and operate Yeppoon Stock Feeds and Rural Supplies, along with Tom & Jerry’s Pet Shed. Prior to this I worked in the veterinary field for just on 29 years in Australia and overseas in the UK and South Africa, where I studied Equine Anaesthetists and Radiology. Like so many people in the horse industry, my love for these animals started very young. I started riding in the front of my mum’s - up and down the hills of our then hometown of Bluff. I then went on to my own pony and out into the show world of Ag Shows. My first show was in Emerald at the grand age of two year old. My mother was the driving force behind my show career and still to this day travels with our family all over the country supporting my girls and me. My brother Errol and I showed at many Ag Shows all over QLD, from way out west to Longreach to way up the cost to Townsville and everywhere in between. Back then it was a true adventure getting to some of these shows, especially the ones out west, as many of these were still on dirt roads. Mum would hook the caravan up to the truck and off we would go on our western run, then back to the coast. Over the years our passion changed from ponies to Quarter Horses (QH) and our first Quarter Horse was purchased from Yeppoon, and was by the great Hollywood Return* Q-186. I still remember that day driving in and seeing this stunning golden stallion in his yard, and all these beautiful pally foals running around the place. From there we went down to Donna Hoffman’s property and purchased a gelding called Peppy. He was more Errol’s horse and Holly soon became my horse and so started our partnership. We went in everything from Halter in the morning to Working Cow Horse at night - there was noth- ing we did not have a go at. Over the years we seemed to start having more and more Quarter Horses and eventually we brought a stallion from Robert Ballwin by Doc T Bar. Charlie riding Milo was Champion Hunter Pony but Grand Champion Hunter Horse of the show. 28 • The Australian Quarter Horse Magazine • January • February • 2019
