The Animal Foundation’s 15th Annual Best in Show Each year, The Animal Foundation puts on a dog competition like no other. These are not the pam- pered poodles or the pure- bred Bichon Frises of the Westminster Kennel Club. They are the community’s abandoned shelter dogs in need of a forever home. Over 50 of these amazing dogs will strut their stuff on the carpet and compete for the title of Best in Show and a place in someone’s heart. Categories include small, medium, large, variety pack, pup- pies and special needs, so expect to see a wide variety of adorable breeds of all ages and sizes. A panel of local celebrity judges will name the finalists and crown one lucky pooch “Best in Show”, and, hey, if you want to leave with more than just a feel-good vibe, stick around after the show when all the cuddly canine participants will be available for adoption. This year’s event will be held at the Thomas & Mack Center (4505 S. Maryland Pkwy.) on April 22. All proceeds benefit pro- grams of The Animal Foundation and support their initiative to save the lives of all healthy and treatable animals brought to the founda- tion by the end of 2020. As part of their dedication to keeping their patrons on the cutting edge of technology, they’re rolling out a new program where anybody with a valid library card can check out a mobile WiFi device, a.k.a. hotspot, for a seven-day loan period. The device enables users to access T-mobile’s 4G LTE network while on-the-go almost anywhere in the U.S. That means you can watch videos, play games, check email, scroll through social media or otherwise be virtu- ally productive anywhere, whether at home or out and about. Thanks to a donation from the Henderson Libraries Foundation, the library district will have 60 devices available for checkout. The convenience of connection is no doubt a luxury for some, but a necessity for others. The service, says Henderson Libraries Executive Director Marcie Smedley, will not only “provide internet connectivity on the go, but it will also allow for those patrons who don’t have reliable internet access at home to…access the internet for school, work or recreational needs.” Check it out, literally, or learn more at www.hendersonlibraries.com.
