Le St-Urbain is one of the most underestimated restaurants in town! Of course, it’s often full, which attests to the good taste of the clientele, but it should always be full. In this section of Fleury St West, Le St-Urbain offers some of the best meals in town and the establishment is a rare gem in Montreal. Marc-André Royal, chef and co-owner, has worked at renowned restaurants such as L’Express and 357C to name a few. In 2009, the chef decided to open a restaurant outside of downtown and the Plateau Mont-Royal : Le St-Urbain on Fleury St became an instant success! The space of about 50 seats boasts an entirely redone interior by Marc-André and Mario Rousseau’s team; superb leather chairs, brushed steel tables, pine tile ceiling. Co-owner, and chef Adam Ganten (congrats Adam) offers a particularly delicious sea- sonal cuisine. The St-Urbain menu is both gastronomic and comforting. Think char, tartare, small market vegetables, seafood, pasta, steak, duck and more, in carefully prepared and original dishes. The ingredients used here are carefully selected and as much as possible from our surrounding region – starters range between $14 and $18 and main courses between $27 and $36. The menu changes according to whats fresh and available. The menu dégustation has 6 courses for $70 and changes daily. Le St-Urbain is the first in Quebec to be recommended by Ocean Wise, acknowledged guarantor of responsible fishing. Directed brilliantly by Chantal Gervais, the restaurant’s talented and hyperactive room manager, sommelier and co-owner, the team in the dining room is welcoming and at- tentive. The elaborate menu offers a good range of wine choices, mostly private im- ports, and the prices range from $36 to $100 per bottle, with many options by the glass and half glass, and this appears to satisfy the wine lovers. Le St-Urbain is both a small local bistro and a destination restaurant with an eclectic clientele. The atmosphere is quite festive and noisy yet regardless, dining here is al- ways a remarkable gourmet experience! 199
