Region 1 Assembly April 2018, Tarrytown NY “Making Connections” By: Michael Bogue Represenatives from the student chapters of Manhattan College and The New York City College of Technology section joined us on Saturday. They were well spoken and inpressed all in attendance Louis Aurigemma, ASCE President-Elect Nominee Students from Manhattan College presenting to the regional conference with their plans, and the activities they have been hosting for their members. The conversation did come around once again to the need for effective communication. With the constant change of leadership amongst the student chapters, having information readily available on what type of support is available is a huge need. After hearing from the students, we continued on with business and continued our discussion on what can be done to make the region more cohesive and how we can communicate more effectively. Director Cioffi led us throught the muck and several great ideas were recorded and will be given additional consideration. We then had the opportunity to have a sit down with Louis Aurigemma, one of the two candidates for ASCE President elect. Louis was friendly, and has high hopes for the future of ASCE. Kancheepuram N. Gunalan (Guna) is also running for ASCE President-Elect, however he was not able to join us due to scheduling conflicts. Both candidates bios are available on the ASCE Elections website here. I urge all of you to read more about the candidates and make an informed decision. Voting goes from May 1 st to June 1 st . When all was said and done, the conference was a huge success. We even had the opportunity to hear about the Tapanzee Bridge construction project that was ongoing just down the road. Check out Sarah Dinwoodie’s article summarizing the talk. This was my last assembly as the Senior NE Deligate as I have decided to run for ASCE-NH President elect. I will however continue to represent NH to the best of my abilities and give NH the voice it deserves on the national level. Thank you all for your time, votes and support!
