I believe there is great power in taking chances, whether that be trying a new experience or talking with a person sitting apart from the crowd. I want to take advantage of every opportunity in my path.” How much do you love choir? “My pride and joy is being the president of Silverado’s multitalented choir, and I am extremely humbled and honored for our invitation to sing in Carnegie Hall in the spring. I am also very proud of every time I’ve performed at the Smith Center. These accomplishments remind me of my potential and, as being a part of an outstanding performance, gives me the greatest rush I’ve ever known.” Who is someone you look up to and why? “I look up to Meryl Streep. One year a friend gave me an Into the Woods poster with Streep’s face front and center. Keeping it reminds me to keep going and to be as relentless in whatever I choose to be passionate about. That’s how she got where she is now, and I believe in the power behind it.” April/May 2017 What is something you think people can do to make the world a better place? “Most importantly we have to stop judging one another. We all have our differences, quirks, talents and fears. I believe that every- one has something beautiful to bring to the world, but if we shut them down for something as trivial as how they look or how different they seem, we’re only looking in a dirty mirror. I can help by meeting every new person with an open mind and learn to love those around me by finding things to love within myself.” 57
