America’s Rifle A merica has a gun culture unlike any in the world. Shooters come from all walks of life and all segments of society. These shooters’ interests can range from hunting, competition shooting, personal defense, or just a casual shooter who collects guns. In many cases, it is a combination of these categories. In today’s gun culture, there is an overwhelming presence of the AR-15 variant rifle. The AR-15 is seen now in every category of shooting sports today in America, and for good reason. So, what makes the AR-15 rifle in its many configurations so popular? The answer is simple, the AR-15 is a rifle that can be used for just about any role in which a gun is generally used. As a defense rifle, the AR-15 is excellent. From a defense standpoint, it is very simple to operate, easy to shoot, and quick to get back on target, especially when in the most common chambering of 5.56mm. The 5.56mm cartridge also provides excellent stopping power when loaded with the correct bullet type; and the best part is, it is generally cheap to shoot. by Ian-Bradley M.
