The arrival of spring brings excitement along
with challenges for the season. As sealcoat-
ing professionals, you want to strive to put
your best foot forward while contending with
weather limitations and fluctuations. For an
effective spring commencement, the sealcoat-

the stages of which are delineated in the following paragraphs.

proposals and should be charged at a different rate than a job

• Allow extra drying time in between coats for the previous
coat to release as much water and volatiles as possible, e.g.
if you allow 1 hour in summer, you may have to allow
2-3 hrs.
• Stage your work over 2-3 days and bid accordingly.
• Do not be rushed by the property owner. Consider in-
cluding a disclaimer in the bid that you will not be lia-
ble for in adequate performance of the sealer if you are
compelled to deviate from using the “Best Sealcoating
Practices”.
Planning, Pricing & Thorough Preparation
Job Inspection and Costing – New Jobs. Especially in early
spring, you will have shorter workdays due to low tempera-
tures in early mornings and evenings when sealer shouldn't be
applied. Also, the days with overnight freezing temperatures
