The firing party represents the department at funerals where a traditional 21-gun salute is required. Both teams execute in a reverent and respectful manner that brings honor to a fallen officer and their family. All members of the Honor Guard are trained in proper protocols for the presentation of Colors. The presentation of Colors is used to post, present or display, according to protocol, the United States, State of Texas, and City of Arlington flags at various ceremonies and civic events. The unit also has the ability to play Taps with two buglers assigned to the unit. Taps is played at funerals of slain officers. The U.S. Army’s 3 rd Infantry Regiment “Old Guard” has provided training to the department’s Honor Guard on many occasions in the past. Members have been trained in precise marching, crisp rifle drill and ceremonial missions. This is typically conducted in conjunction with National Peace Officer’s Memorial Week in May of each year in Washington D.C. Arlington, Texas Police Department | 33
