The firing party represents the department at
funerals where a traditional 21-gun salute is required.
Both teams execute in a reverent and respectful
manner that brings honor to a fallen officer and their
family.
All members of the Honor Guard are trained in
proper protocols for the presentation
of Colors. The presentation of Colors
is used to post, present or display,
according to protocol, the United
States, State of Texas, and City of
Arlington flags at various ceremonies
and civic events.
The unit also has the ability to play
Taps with two buglers assigned to the
unit. Taps is played at funerals of slain
officers.
The U.S. Army’s 3 rd Infantry
Regiment “Old Guard” has provided
training to the department’s Honor
Guard on many occasions in the
past. Members have been trained in
precise marching, crisp rifle drill and
ceremonial missions. This is typically conducted in
conjunction with National Peace Officer’s Memorial
Week in May of each year in Washington D.C.
