Recruiting exceptional applicants
that reflect the diversity of the
community is a top priority of the
Arlington Police
Department. The
Personnel and
Recruiting Unit seeks
officer candidates
from across the United
States and Puerto Rico.
Recruiters utilize a
variety of methods to
enrich the candidate
pool including attending career fairs,
recruiting in college classrooms, taking
walk-ins at PD Headquarters, receiving
job interest contacts through the
department’s website, and social media.
In 2018, the unit staffed two
academy classes consisting of 53 recruit
officers. Academy Class 54 started in
February and Class 55 began in July.
The unit consists of seven personnel
including full-time officers who recruit
and assist with the hiring process in
addition to part-time personnel who
assist with background investigations.
Typically, once an application is
received, it can take up to six months to
complete the hiring process.
