The Personnel and Recruiting Unit seeks officer candidates from across the United States and Puerto Rico. Recruiters utilize a variety of methods to enrich the candidate pool including attending career fairs, recruiting in college classrooms, taking walk-ins at PD Headquarters, receiving job interest contacts through the department’s website, and social media. In 2018, the unit staffed two academy classes consisting of 53 recruit officers. Academy Class 54 started in February and Class 55 began in July. The unit consists of seven personnel including full-time officers who recruit and assist with the hiring process in addition to part-time personnel who assist with background investigations. Typically, once an application is received, it can take up to six months to complete the hiring process.
