Louisville, KY 10 | 2018 Annual Report National Night Out culminates months of planning into a huge event in October of each year where neighbors, business owners, and visitors come together to take a stand against crime and get to know their officers. The purpose of National Night Out is to build strong partnerships between police and communities. While the department offers many ongoing programs and initiatives for residents and businesses to stay connected, many of these crime prevention programs are publicized during National Night Out. The City of Arlington has participated in National Night Out activities for over 20 years. Citizens register to host parties throughout the community. Attendance is maximized at parties through social media publication and official news announcements. The National Association of Town Watch ranks cities based upon the overall quality of National Night Out activities, neighborhood participation, and police involvement. In the last ten years, Arlington has made the top ten list in the award category with populations greater than 300,000 residents. In late November, the department was notified that it was being awarded FIRST PLACE, beating out many major cities. National Night Out is an important component to the department’s community policing philosophy to create more engaged and stronger neighborhoods.
