Support Operations Bureau SWAT Unit • The SWAT Unit responded to 74 incidents in 2017 including search warrants, operational requests and calls for service. • Team members contributed over 3,821 hours to training programs. • The K9 Unit transitioned from Field Operations Bureau to the Support Operations Bureau – SWAT command last year. The SWAT Unit consists of 59 officers across several different disciplines. A full-time team consists of a lieutenant, two sergeants and 12 officers. Officers from across other segments of the organization participate on a collateral entry team consisting of 22 officers and two sergeants. Arlington, Texas Police Department There are also two sergeants and 18 officers assigned to a sniper and negotiator team. In 2017,  SWAT officers responded to 39 narcotics search warrants, seven barricaded person calls, and 14 vice operations. The unit also assisted with the arrest of six felony fugitives and other warrant operations. Many of the team members serve as instructors and subject matter experts in various fields. Over 3,821 resource hours were dedicated to training recruit officers and in-service academy topics. Officers also served as instructors for firearms, SWAT schools, bicycle operations, and other citizen outreach efforts. The K9 Unit transitioned from patrol to SWAT command in 2017. It is staffed with one sergeant and three officers. Last year, K9 officers responded to 577 calls for service assisting patrol which resulted in 61 dog deployments with 26 apprehensions of suspects. The team also attended 30 community events educating the public on the role of the K9 Unit. 45
