The Arlington Hispanic Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association received an award during the Dr . Martin Luther King Jr . Celebration 2017 in the Community Group category .
Arlington registered 223 National Night Out gatherings in 2017 and was ranked # 2 nationally and # 1 in the State of Texas .
Corporal Damien Gary was awarded 2017 Officer of the Year by the Sons of the American Revolution .
The department was presented by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies ( CALEA ) with the Tri-Arc Award , which is given to agencies that have concurrent accreditations for their law enforcement , public safety communications and public safety training agencies .
Deputy Chief Jim Lowery was awarded the Arlington Highlands Rotary Vocational Excellence Award – Officer of the Year .
United States Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced in late November 2017 that the Arlington Police Department would be a recipient of grant funding for 15 additional officers through the Department of Justice ’ s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services ( COPS Office ) Hiring Program . Arlington was one of 179 law enforcement agencies across the nation selected to hire additional community policing officers .
Police Chief Will D . Johnson received the Government Award from the Dr . Martin Luther King Jr . Celebration 2017 Committee .
Arlington Police Lt . Christopher Cook was re-appointed to the National Information Officers Association as the Region 6 Board Member . He also serves as the General Chair for the International Association of Chiefs of Police – Public Information Officers Section .
