PPatrol - West District
• The West District focused on increasing community engagement with the addition of new community watch groups .
• Lake patrol officers added coverage which increased the district ’ s ability to respond to calls for service on Lake Arlington .
• The district established the Treepoint Apartment Manager ’ s Coalition .
The West Patrol District continued to focus on relationship building with the addition of two new community watch groups coming onboard . Several youth events were held at Trinity United Methodist . The first Coffee with a Cop event was held in the district with Martin High School hosting officers at the field house . The district held an annual Back to School Bash to assist with providing school supplies and snacks to kids .
Lake Arlington is primarily used as a recreational lake and will generate calls for service at various times throughout the year . The district increased their capacity to respond to calls at the parks surrounding the lake and actual incidents that occur on the water by certifying four additional officers to operate the patrol boat . Training included reviewing statutes related to Parks and Wildlife , operation of watercraft , and safety issues . Officers assigned to Lake Arlington perform the role as an ancillary duty and the department deploys a full compliment of officers on major holidays . Summer weekends are also staffed when crowd sizes swell .
The Treepoint Apartment Manager ’ s Coalition was created in 2016 which hosts multiple apartment managers on a quarterly basis to discuss issues . One of the challenges identified by officers was a lack of communication and engagement that led to some issues not being elevated to the beat officers and supervisors .
The district created an email distribution list and coordinated with Kennedale Police Department based upon the geographic proximity to the apartment complexes . One of the major successes with the newly formed coalition is that all of the apartment complexes are connected through networking with the department . Citizens on Patrol are also deployed routinely to proactively patrol the multi-family housing areas and report suspicious activities .
