22016 Spotlight - President Obama Visit
The eyes of the world descended on Dallas , Texas during a memorial service for the five police officers killed during an ambush in July . President Barack Obama , First Lady Michelle Obama , Vice President Joe Biden , Dr . Jill Biden , and former President George W . Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush , along with other dignitaries were on hand for this special occasion .
The Dallas Police Department in coordination with the United States Secret Service turned over all security related to the presidential escort and detail to the Arlington Police Department . Police Chief Will Johnson mobilized hundreds of officers from APD to assist in this large endeavor . The security of the President is one of the highest honors in which any agency can participate .
Officers handled the presidential motorcade from the airport , internal venue security at the memorial service , and perimeter security in the immediate vicinity of the venue and surrounding streets . The department was all hands on deck , as operations had to continue back in Arlington as well during this event .
The memorial event and tribute was concluded with no major security issues or threats . Arlington officers were honored to be in a position where they were able to assist Dallas PD who were still grieving the loss of several of their own .
