2014 year in review
April
Bluebonnets were in full bloom so APD
didn’t waste any time in photographing
K9 Finn in the picturesque moment. The
photos were a huge hit with social media
followers and news organizations.
October
An unprecedented storm took aim at
Arlington and caused widespread power
outages for days and extensive damages
to public works infrastructure and
buildings. Officers immediately responded
by checking on residents and directed
traffic at intersections without power.
May
A national social media campaign urged
drivers to #moveover and prevent
needless injuries and deaths to public
safety officials. APD posted several
photos to raise awareness to the “Move
Over” laws in Texas.
November
The annual Joey Cushman 5K Run
brought officers and professional staff
from around the department on a chilly
30-degree day to support his legacy and
raise money for Special Olympics. Joey
was killed in the line of duty during a
training incident on June 7, 2001.
June
Twelve-year-old Katie visited APD based
upon her admiration and love for police
officers. She has a rare central nervous
system disorder but that didn’t stop her
from having a great time with Arlington’s
finest.
December
Chief Johnson held his second annual
Christmas contest that allowed evening
shift officers to participate in an
opportunity to spend Christmas Day
off. This year’s focus was on creating
a holiday jingle that highlighted safety.
Officer Rebecca Hyder was chosen as the
winner and Chief Johnson showed up on
Christmas to work her shift so she could
spend the day with her family.
