POLICE
DEPARTMENT
VolunteersAre…
Volunteers are an integral part of the department. They assist in a variety of ways, from patrolling neighborhoods to helping
investigations by passing out flyers to acting in scenarios for recruits to calling victims of crimes. Volunteers save the city
thousands of dollars every year by doing things a paid employee would have to do otherwise. Our volunteers are a part of the
APD family. They celebrate our successes at our side and we are grateful for each and every one of them.
APD is privileged to have two longterm volunteers who have served the
department and community for more
than 20-years. Retired APD Lieutenant
James Long has volunteered for
22-years and Gayle Hatala has served
in a volunteer capacity for almost
20 years. James assists the front
desk officer by providing telephone
customer service and greeting citizens
who come into the
station. Gayle’s duties
include processing open
records requests for
photos, fulfilling mugshot
requests for other
agencies, and archiving
our hundreds of cases.
In 2014, volunteers returned
$551,544 dollars in resource hours
back to the department based upon
their compassion, dedication, and
commitment in making Arlington better.
There are many ways that citizens
can join our public safety team. If you
would like more information on any of
these programs or how to become a
volunteer for the police department,
please contact the Crime Prevention
Unit at 817-459-5725.
