Dollars & Cents Grant Awardsin 2014 Total Value: $969,816 Through the assistance of federal, state, and private foundations, grants allow the department to provide additional public services and obtain equipment that is not available through the Police Department’s General Fund budget. Justice Assistance Block Grant $130,379 The Bureau of Justice provided funds toward the purchase and installation of digital video recorders for patrol vehicles. TxDOT STEP Comprehensive Grant $358,437 The Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) from the Texas Department of Transportation provided grant funds for traffic enforcement to reduce the incidence of speeding, driving while intoxicated, and failure to use occupant restraint systems. Impaired Driving Mobilization Grant $22,000 The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) granted funds to be used to focus on driving while intoxicated enforcement during select holiday periods. Victim Services Response Team Counselor Grant $80,000 The Criminal Justice Division of the Governor’s Office funded two Victim Service Response Team Counselors to serve victims, their family members, and witnesses to criminal acts against victims. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Program – High Priority Grant $226,600 The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration provided funds to reduce the likelihood of commercial motor vehicle involved crashes, fatalities, and injuries through effective enforcement methods, public outreach and safety programs. Hispanic Outreach Counselor Grant $72,422 The Criminal Justice Division of the Governor’s Office funded one Hispanic Outreach Counselor to assist Spanish speaking crime victims with access to the criminal justice system and community resources. Family Violence Intervention and Prevention Grant $77,348 The Criminal Justice Division of the Governor’s Office funded one Victim Services Counselor position to assist with addressing family violence in a more comprehensive and proactive approach intended to reduce the incidence of family violence. Target Foundation $1,500 Target donated funds to assist the department with promotional advertising for National Night Out. QuikTrip Corporation $500 QuikTrip donated gift cards that were used during National Night Out as promotions, incentives and community appreciation gifts. 43
