Support Operations Bureau
Community SupportDivision
The Community Support Division is
comprised of Youth Services, Training
Center, Personnel & Recruiting,
Community Support, Crime Prevention
and Victim Services Units. All of these
units assist with the department’s
citizen engagement efforts and ensure
that we are attracting the highest
quality applicants who aspire to wear
the Arlington badge.
In 2014, over 9,000 crime victims
or family members in crisis were
served by the Victim Services Unit.
The unit provided crisis intervention,
support, and walked victims through
the criminal justice process. They
also took a multidisciplinary approach
with outside agencies to ensure that
everyone can receive the help they
need. The unit relies on a strong cadre
of volunteers as well who logged over
5,000 hours of service equating to a
cost-savings of $121,141 last year.
Youth Services provides
law enforcement
services to the Arlington
Independent School
District through the school
resource officer program.
Each middle and high
school has an officer
assigned. The Police
Athletic League (PAL)
Camp is a summer
retreat where teens
learn basic life skills
and bridge the gap
between police and
children. The weeklong camp is offered
four times during the
summer months. A
total of 74 middle
school students
participated in PAL
camp last year. Mutual
trust and strong
bonds are enhanced
throughout the
program. During the
holiday season, Youth Explorer Post
602 passed out 3,519 vehicle burglary
report cards around the Parks Mall to
bring about awareness on how not to
become victimized.
The Crime Prevention Unit helps
organize community outreach efforts
for the department. The unit manages
the Citizens On Patrol program, COP
Mobile, Unidos, National Night Out, and
community watch groups. In 2014, the
unit rolled out Nextdoor which enables
residents to feel more connected at a
neighborhood level.
