top media stories Pinwheel display to raise awareness of child abuse The Crimes Against Children Unit participated in Child Abuse Prevention Month and hosted a pinwheel display at the Ott Cribbs Public Safety Building. Each pinwheel represented a case of physical or sexual abuse against a child that was reported in Arlington last year. Local media covered the event which included officers and volunteers placing more than 400 pinwheels on the front lawn. The display, which was coordinated by Detective Emma Trevino, remained in place for a week and provided a visual reminder of our youngest victims. Swafford tree dedication, one year later In June 2014, APD hosted a tree dedication ceremony for the memory of Leona Swafford, one year after she was kidnapped and killed during a carjacking. This grandmother’s death was a shock to the community and is unfortunately a case that remains unsolved. Ms. Swafford’s family took the opportunity at the tree dedication ceremony to ask the media to continue showing Ms. Swafford’s photo and plead with the public to contact the police department if anyone has information about the homicide investigation.
